Food processing sector boosts India’s economy by 8.4 percent

It’s no secret that food processing is growing in the United States, but did you know that it’s boosting economies all over the world?

Take India, for example. According to a recently published news item by The Economic Times, the “food processing sector attracted foreign direct investment of $421.51 million” from April 2014 to January 2015.

Here’s more from the original story:

“Food processing is one of the fastest growing sectors of the economy and the sector is growing at 8.4 per cent,” Food Processing Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal said in an official statement.

She said the country has the potential to become a global leader in the food processing sector.

Kaur expects food processing in India to continue to grow and create employment in the region.
