Sprouts recalled for possible salmonella contamination

Banner Mountain Sprouts of Elk Grove, Calif., is voluntarily recalling organic sprouts under the following names — 4-oz. zesty greens, 5-oz. sprout salad, 4-oz. clover, 2-lb. clover, 4-oz. alfalfa/broccoli, 4-oz. alfalfa sprouts, and 1-lb. and 2-lb. alfalfa sprouts —  because they may be contaminated with salmonella.

Routine testing showed signs of salmonella and Banner Mountain Sprouts was notified of possible contamination. The FDA has announced the voluntary recall.

The sprouts were distributed through retail stores and wholesalers in California. The products come in a 4- or 5-oz. clear, plastic, clamshell container and a 1-lb. or 2-lb. self-locking bag with a sell-by date from 6/17/12 to 7/6/12. No illnesses have been associated with any of the products.
