Canadian Government Investigating E. Coli Outbreak

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency and Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care are investigating an on-going E. coli outbreak that may be associated with lettuce.

Seven illnesses have been confirmed in the cities of Niagara, Halton, Waterloo and Guelph in southern Ontario. Some of those sickened were students at the University of Guelph and others were students at a local high school.

Romaine lettuce was initially identified as the source of the E. coli, but the source may be from other sources, according to CFIA. The agencies are conducting a trace back investigation to find the source of the contaminated product.
