US Foodservice adopts GS1 standard

U.S. Foodservice, one of the nation’s leading food distributors to restaurants, schools, hotels, healthcare facilities and military installations, is a founding member of the Foodservice GS1 U.S. Standards Initiative and will continue to support it by implementing the Global Data Synchronization Network (GDSN), according to a statement from the company. The implementation of GDSN Data Pool technology will enable the company and its vendors to synchronize product information and price data using standardized Global Location Numbers and Global Trade Item Numbers.

“We are committed to leveraging these new standards in tandem with our suppliers. The GS1 industry standards will improve food safety and traceability-from ‘farm to fork’-and streamline processes, which helps us reduce costs and deliver efficiency to our customers, so they can succeed,” said Pat Mulhern, president, Monarch Food Group, U.S. Foodservice. “GS1 ensures one version of product data enabling item data accuracy and more efficient warehouse inventory management.”

GS1 is a neutral, not-for-profit organization dedicated to the design and implementation of global standards and solutions to improve efficiency and visibility in supply chains. GS1 standards improve traceability on a global scale, making the food supply safer through quick and accurate identification of a food product’s origin.

U.S. Foodservice selected FSE Inc., as its GDSN Data Pool provider to assist that process.
