Processing equipment acquisition to fortify Sormac portfolio
Fresh-cut processing equipment manufacturer Sormac has acquired a majority stake in German fruit and vegetable equipment company Foodcons.
Established in 2004, Foodcons has been the official distributor of Sormac equipment in Germany and Austria for years. Sormac will absorb Foodcons operations in 2025, establishing a limited liability company (Sormac GmbH) in Germany, according to a news release.

“We believe that this change will lead to improved production efficiency, a symbiosis of our engineering efforts and most importantly, an improved service for our existing and new customers,” Elena Haffmans, Sormac director of business innovations, said in the release.
Headquartered in the Netherlands, Sormac has opened sales in service centers in the U.S. and the U.K. The acquisition of Foodcons will expand Sormac’s product portfolio and enhance its production capabilities, according to the release.
“We’ve been working closely with Sormac for 20 years now and we’re thrilled that our machinery will be coming under the highly respected Sormac name,” Karsten Schmitz, Foodcons managing director, said. “We’re excited about what the future holds and look forward to seeing things come together over this year.”
Sormac has U.S. headquarters in Ohio.
