Packaging solutions provider Oliver Inc. acquires folding carton manufactuer

Specialty packaging solutions provider Oliver Inc. has acquired Tap Packaging + Design, a leading manufacturer of custom folding cartons.

Cleveland-based Tap Packaging serves industries including food and beverage, beauty, confection, health and wellness, and consumer goods.

“We are thrilled to welcome the Tap team to the Oliver family,” Dan Rodenbush, president and CEO of Oliver Inc., said in an online statement. “Their diverse range of capabilities will allow us to expand our product offerings and enhance our overall service for our customers.”

The transaction is the fifth acquisition for Oliver, which has invested in significant equipment, employment and facility upgrades since 2016, according to the statement.

“Oliver and Tap Packaging share similar core values, and both companies have a passion for providing an exceptional customer experience,” said David Chilcote, Tap Packaging chairman. “Partnering with Oliver increases our capacity, provides redundancy, and allows us to better leverage our combined scale to offer enhanced solutions for our customers.”

The transaction closed on Jan. 18.

Tap Packaging was founded in 1906 as the Chilcote Co., a manufacturer of paperboard packaging used to display photographs. Acquisitions in the 1990s and 2000s expanded the company’s reach into set-up box manufacturing, premium presentation packaging, promotional products and consumer goods.

Oliver, founded in 1924, has facilities in Ohio, New York, Massachusetts and Virginia.
