Mexican grower-exporter plans expansion, new vegetable lines
Mexican fresh vegetable grower-exporter SL Produce, which launched a new packaged vegetable brand in October, is planning to add product lines and enter new markets, beginning in 2025.
Located in Guasave, Mexico, SL Produce has U.S. import and distribution facilities in Nogales, Arizona and McAllen, Texas, as well as production sites across Mexico. Its export business centers on green beans, cucumbers, bell peppers, soft squash and sweet corn.
In October, the company introduced Tenderland, a new line of bagged products available for weekly deliveries to retail and foodservice customers across the U.S. and Canada.
A high-volume 2025 crop is expected to contribute to additional expansion, according to a news release. The company said abundant quantities of high-quality green beans, cucumbers, squash, and bell peppers are now available.
As SL Produce increases the scope of its farming operations, it plans to move into new markets and introducing more products, according to the release.
“One of our main achievements has been expanding our farming operations, allowing us to produce more diverse crops while maintaining the high standards our customers expect,” Ivonne Lugo, SL Produce marketing and public relations manager, said in the release. “Additionally, we’ve made great strides in improving our supply chain efficiency, which has led to faster delivery times and reduced waste.”
The company’s technological investments include the implementation of precision agriculture techniques that have helped optimize irrigation, fertilization, and pest management, she said. Those investments have increased yield and reduced the company’s environmental impact while helping expand its U.S. market presence.
SL Produce has also expanded its facilities and invested in state-of-the-art packing and storage technologies.
“Overall, 2024 has been a year of growth and innovation, setting the stage for even greater accomplishments in the years to come,” Lugo said. “We are increasing volumes by planting in the summer, focusing on creating new value-added product offerings.”
SL Produce will be highlighting its achievements, including an increase in demand across retail channels for its Tenderland brand, at the New York Produce Show and Convention Dec. 10-12.
“Our focus on providing high-quality, fresh, and sustainably grown produce has resonated strongly with consumers who are increasingly looking for products that align with their values,” Lugo said. “Our customers have praised the consistency and flavor of our products, which has helped build loyalty and repeat business. We’ve also received excellent feedback regarding our quality. Customers appreciate the freshness of our vegetables, making Tenderland a preferred choice for many.”
