Apio Brings Raw Product Storage On-Site with Expansion

Keeping pace with industry demand to provide high quality, fresh cut vegetables, Apio Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Landec Corporation (LNDC), has completed a 40,000 square foot expansion to its current processing facilities. The refrigerated space, which will be utilized for raw product storage, was placed into operation Nov. 19, just in time for the holiday production increase, according to the company.

“Prior to this expansion, off-site facilities were utilized to meet warehousing requirements,” said Sparky Locke, director of operations. “This addition will enable Apio Inc. to store all raw product materials on-site, greatly reducing the logistical complexities involved in off site warehouse maintenance, inventory rotations and facility transfer coordination.”

A second phase to this expansion is set to begin in early 2010 whereby a 7,500 square foot receiving dock will be added to the existing facilities, further adding efficiencies in loading and receiving.

Since 1996, Apio, Inc has been the leading producer of technology driven products, benefits and services within the fresh-cut vegetable industry, marketing a complete line of products using Landec’s proprietary BreatheWay specialty packaging under the Eat Smart brand.
