Exhibits attract thousands to Fruit Logistica
Another gathering of the world’s produce community at Fruit Logistica in Berlin is now in the books. More than 58,000 trade visitors from 120 countries attended. Here are some company highlights from the gathering, held Feb. 6-8.
Bayer CropScience showcased its latest Food Chain Partnership business initiative with various key partners in Latin America, such as Walmart Chile, Chile’s leading food retailer; UNIVEG Group, a leading supplier of fresh produce; and Agricola Famosa, Brazil’s largest producer and exporter of melons.
Bayer CropScience’s global Food Chain Partnership program involves 240 projects in 30 countries and 40 crops, offering all partners – from farmers to food retailers – integrated crop solutions based on seeds, effective crop protection and services.
Turatti showcased the evolution of the Camel washing and treatment system. The machine was first introduced to the German market during the 2009 Fruit Logistica.
“This patented system, now operating in several companies worldwide, gently transports the most delicate products (fruit and vegetables) while maintaining quality levels well within the most stringent specifications. The 2013 version of the system embodies the extensive experience handling the most disparate products with different applications,” said Alessandro Turatti, sales manager of the group and president of Turatti North America.
The Nextra spin dryer was also displayed. The model is a fully automatic batch system designed for high capacity dewatering while maintaining gentle handling of the product, according to the company.
Odenberg and BEST, part of Tomba Sorting Solutions, showcased several different systems from their line of sensor-based optical sorters, including the Genius Spinach Sorter, designed to meet the specific needs of the industrial spinach industry for the sorting of whole spinach leaves.
The Genius guarantees a total inspection of each individual spinach leaf at a high capacity, combining a revolutionary infeed system with an optimal detection and removal of foreign material and discolorations in one machine, said the company.
Kronen exhibited its latest machinery with four cooperative partners: GKS Packaging, JFPT foodlife, Tenrit-Foodtec and ZTI Mechatronics.
On display were the revised version of the KUV V cube, strip and slice cutting machine, designed for processing vegetables, fruit and fish; the new GS 20- belt cutting machine designed and built for large industrial food processors to cut leafy products, vegetables and herbs; and the SDS 5000 suction dry system for salads, fruit and vegetables.
