Tozer making hybrid celery seed more readily available

Tozer Seeds America, pioneer of the first hybridized celery, prepares for another successful celery growing season in U.S. markets. Recently, Tozer announced that their hybrid seeds of celery will be available on all their commercial lines beginning in January 2019.

“Tozer is continuously committed to breeding and producing hybrid celery varieties that match the various international market requirements,” said Kraig Kuykendall, sales manager of Tozer Seeds America. “Now is the time for sowing our lines throughout North America and we are excited to see another successful season in our markets.”

Existing celery lines include TZ 6200, TZ 0295, Hadrian, Hudson, and Rivalry. Hudson and Rivalry, the newest darker green celery varieties, have shown great promise for the main season with exceptional yield and excellent fusarium race 2 resistance. All the hybrid varieties are an ideal choice for main season and winter productions due to their excellent yield, tolerance to fusarium, great holding ability and good flavor.

“Our main goal is to lead the market with constant variety improvements which we hope will help the grower and the end consumer as well,” said Kuykendall.

Tozer’s large selection of celery has benefits for both growers and retailers. These varieties also provide retailers and processors with better flavor, more interesting color and stronger stalks.

Tozer’s celery breeding program began in the late 1980s. Since the introduction of Victoria, the world’s first hybrid celery, Tozer has maintained its status as the world leader in the development of new celery varieties for yield, field holding ability, disease resistance and great flavor.
