TOMRA Food announces potatoes category director

TOMRA Food has announced Marco Colombo as its new global director of potatoes. He joined TOMRA in February after 10 years with Lamb Weston Meijer.

Colombo will be responsible for building and leading global, cross-functional teams to support customers with the best service and support in the industry. He is also in charge of assisting customers in developing a digital strategy and leveraging big data, analytics, AI and machine learning to optimize.

“(Colombo) knows our industry intimately, having worked for 17 years in the food and beverage sector and having held senior roles in the frozen potato industry in the last 10 years,” said Thomas Molnar, VP, head of global sales TOMRA Food Sorting, said through a press release. “The experience and passion for innovation he brings to our team will prove invaluable in helping our customers optimize their operation and raise the bar on their value proposition. By building long-lasting close relationships with stakeholders across the world, he will consolidate TOMRA Food’s position as a thought leader in our sector for our sorting solutions and our commitment to making a difference in improving global social responsibility.”

TOMRA Food offers a wide array of sorting and processing solutions.

On his new role as Global Category Director Potatoes, Colombo said: “Potatoes tend to be considered a cheap staple food. But potatoes are not just potatoes — it is how we maximize their value that makes all the difference for our customers and us. In my new role, I would like to add my grain of sand to maximizing all the potential added value still hidden in this category, which is huge. I feel blessed for being part of the TOMRA Food team because we bring peace of mind to our customers. We strive to understand their business, what keeps them awake at night, and by applying our distinctive technological expertise, we develop for them reliable solutions that make a true impact on their operations — with innovation, passion and responsibility.”

Colombo was born and raised in Italy, where he earned a degree in foreign languages from the University of Milan. He has also completed the Advanced Leadership Program at Ashridge Business School in the United Kingdom.

In his most recent role as Head of Southern Europe, Brazil, and Maghreb Out of Home Business Unit at Lamb Weston Meijer, he was responsible for all commercial activities in the region. He also previously worked for the Kellogg Company.
