Specialty food importer acquires ingredient company

Specialty food importer Atalanta Corp. has acquired organic ingredient company Big Picture Foods in the second acquisition of 2024 for the New Jersey-based business.

Atalanta acquired J.A. Kirsch earlier this year.

Big Picture Foods offers naturally fermented organic olives, peppers and capers and works with small farms practicing regenerative agriculture, according to a news release. The acquisition will enhance Atalanta’s Mediterranean food portfolio while making Big Picture Foods’ products available to more U.S. customers, according to the release.

“We are thrilled to welcome Big Picture Foods to the Atalanta family,” Tom Gellert, Atalanta Corp. president, said in the release. “Their commitment to quality and sustainability perfectly complements our vales, and we are excited to bring their exceptional products to even more customers.”

Big Picture Foods will retain its team members, according to the release.

“We’re excited to join the Atalanta family,” Daniela Jensen, Big Picture Foods co-founder, said. “This partnership allows us to remain true to our mission of creating clean ingredient foods that nourish people, support farmers and restore the planet while gaining access to the extensive resources that Atalanta brings.”

Atalanta, founded in 1945, imports cheese, charcuterie, deli meat, grocery products and seafood worldwide under the umbrella of Gellert Global Group.
