SOMIC Packaging open house celebrates US operations

More than 120 guests from around the world attended SOMIC Packaging’s open house at its new North American headquarters in Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota.

The Sept. 25 event in the Minneapolis suburb celebrated the 48,000-square-foot facility, opened in October 2024 to allow for domestic assembling and testing of end-of-line packaging machines.

Local and corporate officials spoke before a ribbon-cutting ceremony, according to a news release. A tour of the facility, complete with machine demonstrations, followed. The company’s new 434 SuperFlex was on display, days before its formal debut at PACK Expo Las Vegas.

SOMIC Packaging CEO Peter Fox told the crowd the facility helps the company achieve its goals.

“It begins with a fundamental pursuit of perfection,” Fox said. “There is nothing manufactured in the world that is 100% perfect, but it is the pursuit of perfection that is at the core of our SOMIC DNA.”

Gerhard Huber, CEO of German-based parent company The SOMIC Group, spoke about the company’s commitment to U.S. operations. All North American machine installations are now being assembled in Minnesota, Fox said.

“We do this so we can be the leader in providing our customers with the best and most efficient way to automate their packaging operations. This makes them more competitive and efficient in the marketplace, and when they succeed, we succeed,” Fox said. “This is why at SOMIC, we proudly say we are engineered to perform. And now we are made in the USA.”
