SAMBAZON adds smoothie cube blends to frozen fruit lineup

SAMBAZON, a leading supplier of certified fair trade and organic acai, has added a new format to its frozen fruit lineup. Acai Smoothie Cubes feature blended fruits that consumers can make into a smoothie by adding liquid.

Available in two flavor combinations — mango and acai and mixed berries and acai — the cubes can be thawed with any liquid of choice for 20 minutes, then shaken and enjoyed. A blender can also be used for a quicker option.

“Our customers are always at the heart of our innovations,” Ryan Black, SAMBAZON founder and CEO, said in a news release. “With the goal of spreading purple smiles through easy ways of consuming acai, finding a way to bring more convenience to the everyday smoothie routine was an intentional step for SAMBAZON.”

The line’s packaging uses a paper outer layer to reduce plastic usage and also eliminates the inner plastic pouches commonly used in smoothie kits, according to the company.

The smoothie cubes will be available in the coming months nationally at Whole Foods Market and Sprouts Farmers Market locations. Both flavors will retail at $10.99 for a 20-ounce bag, which can make up to five smoothies.

Beginning in March, a 40-ounce offering will be available at Los Angeles Costco locations for $14.99.

Founded in 2000, SAMBAZON, an acronym for Sustainable Management of the Brazilian Amazon, supplies organic and Fair Trade Certified acai products from a proprietary supply chain.

The acai palm tree, native to tropical Central and South America, produces a deep purple fruit.
