Produce Groups to Hold Lettuce Safety Meeting

On Wed., March 29, a number of produce industry associations – including the Produce Marketing Association (PMA), International Fresh-cut Produce Association, United Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Association, the Grower Shipper Association of Central California and Western Growers Association – will co-sponsor a one-day training event for operations, quality assurance and ranch managers as well as anyone interested in integrated systems and measures to ensure the safety of whole and fresh-cut lettuce and leafy greens.

According to a PMA release, this one-day interactive program is designed to foster a discussion regarding practical means of assuring and enhancing the safety of lettuce and leafy greens products. The program will include the underlying principles that govern produce safety and promote practical tools and ideas to do so. This will be an interactive, hands-on program with attendees discussing practical implementation strategies throughout the day.

The meeting will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Richard W. Nutter Agricultural Center in Salinas, Calif. The registration deadline is March 24. There is no registration fee for members of the co-sponsoring organizations. Registrations will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis.
