Mastronardi Produce has won the Canadian Produce Marketing Association’s 2026 Packaging Innovation Award for its Tomato Branch triangular carrier.
The recyclable packaging, launched in March for the company’s flagship Sunset brand, features new film technology to help maintain freshness and crispness for Sunset’s greenhouse-grown, on-the-vine micro-grape tomatoes.
The triangular packaging is designed to mimic the natural branching structure of tomatoes on the vine and fits into existing retail systems, helping meet growing demand for sustainability while maintaining shelf appeal, according to a news release.
Mastronardi Produce received the CPMA Packaging Innovation Award in 2025 for its resealable paper lettuce bag. Launched on the Backyard Farms brand, the resealable bag reduced plastic use by 65% compared to a traditional PET tray, according to the company.
