Organic watermelon beverage, ‘Wonder Melon,’ coming from Kayco

Kayco is targeting New York City with its new organic watermelon beverage.

Wonder Melon, marketed as “the latest thirst-quencher for those seeking clean, uniquely flavorful new refreshment options,” according to a press release, is made from cold-pressed juice with no added sugar, artificial ingredients or artificial colorings. It comes in two flavors: Watermelon Cucumber Basil, and Watermelon Lemon Cayenne. Both varieties are certified Fair Trade, USDA organic and certified OU kosher (parve).

At a suggested retail price of $3.99 per 8.45 oz. bottle, Wonder Melon will be available in the refrigerator section at Shop-Rite, Fairway, Best Market, independent grocers and Amazon.

According to menu trends research by the National Watermelon Promotion Board, all regions across the U.S. are experiencing increased use of watermelon. Watermelon is featured in one of 10 restaurant menus — up by 27% in the last four years. Watermelon is one of the fastest-growing fruit flavors in non-alcoholic beverages, with 29% four-year growth. Eighty-two percent of consumers surveyed said they liked the taste of watermelon.

Kayco will schedule a number of promotional activities in New York. Eye-catching Wonder Melon Vans will cruise Manhattan providing free samples starting July 12 and running all summer in dates and locations that will be announced on social media. Giant Wonder Melon trucks will roll out the product to provide additional exposure. The company will also provide in-store support including tastings and point-of-purchase materials.
