New pick and pack system to debut later this month

Postharvest processing and packaging equipment company Sorma Group will premiere its new pick and pack system at Fruit Attraction 2025, set for Sept. 30-Oct. 2 in Madrid.

The fully automated P&P-800, designed and manufactured by Spanish subsidiary Sorma Iberica, is powered by Sormatech-AI. The technology enables the machine to recognize types of fruit and corresponding box configurations, according to a news release.

The P&P-800’s state-of-the-art camera system helps it detect, rotate and align each piece of fruit.

One camera monitors the incoming flow, a second controls rotation, and the third, 3-D camera guarantees precise placement, according to the company.

With the P&P-800, we set out to respond to the fruit and vegetable industry’s demand for a system combining automation, precision and flexibility,” Daniele Severi, Sorma Iberica technology division director, said in the release. It’s the outcome of an entirely in-house research and development process, through which we’ve created a competitive solution tailored to our customers’ specific needs.”

The system is controlled by means of a belt with an integrated encoder which includes a compact electrical panel and a modern 15.6-inch touchscreen monitor. The interface allows operators to select fruit positioning, while sensors help provide a constant product flow.

The P&P-800 is available internationally, according to the release.
