Innovation lab applications open, due by Feb. 12
Applications are now open for projects aimed at accelerating the development of sustainable packaging and labeling options and expanding U.S. export markets.
The USDA is funding the Sustainable Packaging Innovation Lab, a $25 million initiative, as part of its Assisting Specialty Crop Exports (ASCE) program. The agency’s Foreign Agricultural Service has awarded $5 million to Clemson University and the International Fresh Produce Association’s Foundation for Fresh Produce to establish the lab, with the Foundation for Food & Agriculture Research partnering in its implementation.
The lab will provide up to 20 awards between $50,000 and $250,000 for research leading to the development and commercialization of scalable, sustainable packaging solutions, including replacements for single-use packaging.
Applications are due Feb. 12. Additional program information is available online, as is registration for a Jan. 13 webinar with RFA details.
More details about the program can be also found in the November/December issue of Produce Processing.
