Global avocado producer acquires Belgian-based company
Global avocado producer Westfalia Fruit has acquired Belgian-based avocado products manufacturer Syros.
Syros has produced high-quality avocado-based products, including a range of guacamole varieties, for European supermarkets, restaurant chains and meal box companies for more than 30 years, according to a news release. The company supplies private label and branded products with a focus on convenient, healthy, and sustainable products.
“This acquisition strengthens our value-added business in Europe and aligns perfectly with our growth strategy,” Wim Destoop, Westfalia Fruit regional president Europe, said in the release. “Syros has been a trusted partner for many years, with Westfalia supplying a high percentage of their raw materials. Their commitment to quality and sustainability mirrors our own values, making this a natural next step for both companies.”
Syros’s operations and brands, including the professional market brand Syros and consumer market brand Wonky, will become part of Westfalia, which operates in 17 countries across five continents.
“For three decades, Syros has focused on making food happen by providing flavorful, high-quality food in a sustainable way,” Syros CEO Pieter Casneuf said. “Joining Westfalia, with whom we have worked together already for many years, will enable us to continue this mission with even greater capabilities and reach.”
The acquisition includes a private label development enterprise focused on creating concepts and recipes tailored to client requirements, according to the release.
