FDA, USDA investigating new listeria outbreak
The Food and Drug Administration has posted notice of a new Listeria monocytogenes outbreak, and the agency is working with the USDA in a joint investigation of the source.
There have been 10 confirmed cases as of the April 30 posting, according to the FDA website. The agency has not reported where the patients live or how old they are.
The agency has begun an onsite inspection and sample testing but has not revealed what location is being inspected or what is being tested.
Outbreak and adverse event investigations that do not result in specific, actionable steps for consumers may or may not conclusively identify a source or reveal any contributing factors, according to the FDA. Adverse event investigations rely on self-reported data.
