FDA extends comment period on FSMA rules again

The public comment period for two proposed rules relating to the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) has been extended again.

The comment periods relate to the preventive controls and produce safety rules of FSMA. These proposed rules were originally published on Jan. 16, with a deadline of May 16 for comments. Responding to industry requests, FDA extended the original deadline another 120 days. To read more on the comment period extension go here. FDA has established online comment pages for both the produce rule and the preventive controls rule

The new deadline, which FDA called a “final” extension of the deadline, is Nov. 15.

The latest extension of the comment period deadline is tied to the July 29 release of two other proposed FSMA rules relating to the safety of imported foods. The extension will allow interested parties to consider the relationship between the previous rules and the proposed regulations for imports.
