Classic Salads Issues Voluntary Recall of Bagged Salads

Classic Salads, Watsonville, Calif., announced a voluntary recall at 3 p.m. July 27 after Salmonella was found in some of its bagged salads, said sales manager Lex Camany.

Camany said the company had a third party audit on that day, and at 2 p.m. management was notified of possible Salmonella contamination, although a definitive test could not verify that for four more days. The company decided to issue a voluntary recall one hour after being notified rather than wait for more tests.

The company recalled its 10-ounce, 2-pound and 4-pound packages of Baby Spinach and 1.5-pound, 3-pound and 4-pound packages of Spring Mix.

The products were distributed nationwide to foodservice customers and distributors. The clear bags have the lot code number 1502XXX, indicating it was processed July 24. They were shipped on pallets with “Classic Salads,” “Classic Choice,” “Classic Greens,” “Sir Lancelot,” “Taste of the Valley,” “US Fresh” and “Valley Gold” labels.

Camany said the recall was complete by Friday, July 28, and there were no reports of customers getting sick.
