Cargill makes list of top 10 U.S. food processors

Global food corporation Cargill has made the top 10 of online ranking platform Inventia’s list of best food processing companies in the U.S. for 2023.

The Minnesota-headquartered company, founded in 1865, is listed second to top company Nestle. Cargill, with 160,000 employees in 70 countries, provides food, agriculture, financial and industrial services to customers in more than 125 nations.

Inventia noted Cargill’s innovation solutions in industries including food and beverage, beauty and personal care, animal feed production and grain merchandizing. The company also produces specialty ingredients such as starches, sweeteners and oilseeds.

Its focus on sustainability, including responsibly sourced food and agricultural products, also drew mention, as did its promotion of sustainable farming practices, use of renewable energy sources, conservation of resources and community education initiatives.

The list also includes Chicago-headquartered, multinational food processing and commodities trading corporation Archer Daniels Midland Co.; Kellogg Co.; Tyson Foods; Conagra Brands; Unilever; General Mills; Mars Inc.; and JBS USA Holding Inc.

A similar ranking by TechStory rated PepsiCo Inc. No. 1., with Tyson, Nestle, JBS and Kraft Heinz Co. rounding out the top five. Smithfield Foods Inc. ranked No. 6, followed by Anheuser-Busch InBev, General Mills, the Coca-Cola Co. and Conagra.
