Burger King Announces Kid-Friendly Apple Fries

Burger King, the second largest chain of fast food restaurants in the United States, announced a new fresh-cut apple product aimed at children: BK Fresh Apple Fries.

The Apple Fries are red apples that are sliced to resemble French fries, but are served cold and not fried. They will be served in a container that looks like the company’s French fry cup.

The Apple Fries will use U.S.-grown apples that will use a lemon-based wash to prevent browning after processing, the company said. Test-marketing is expected to begin this year, with a nationwide rollout in 2008.

Burger King is the latest in a growing number of fast food companies to focus on healthier products for children under the age of 12. As part of the healthy initiative, Burger King will be rolling out a new Kids Meal with flame-broiled chicken tenders, unsweetened organic apple sauce and low fat milk.
