Baldor Specialty donates Thanksgiving meals to neighbors in need

Baldor Specialty Foods, in cooperation with the Bronx Community Board and The Point Community Development Center, distributed hundreds of Thanksgiving meals at an event on Saturday, Nov. 18 to residents of Hunts Point in the South Bronx.

Working with several of its food vendor partners, Baldor prepared 500 meal boxes that included a large turkey, fruits and vegetables, dinner rolls, milk, juice and a dessert. An additional 200 bags were handed out to the overflow of residents who lined the streets.

Baldor said Hunts Point is a South Bronx community where 50 percent of the residents live below the poverty line and many of the remainder barely above that.  It’s also home to Baldor’s corporate headquarters and warehouse facility, the hub of Baldor’s distribution network.

CEO of Baldor, TJ Murphy, said the food drive was a community effort with Tanimura and Antle, Red Jacket Orchards, Krasdale, Bolthouse Farms and Satur Farms all contributing items to make up the meal giveaways.
