Sunset, the flagship brand of Ontario, Canada-headquartered Mastronardi Produce specializing in berries, cucumbers, peppers and tomatoes, is launching the Sunset Tomato Branch triangular carrier.

The carrier extends shelf life, fits existing retail systems and is recyclable, according to the company.

The company said the packaging will roll out at Wegman’s locations in New York and Whole Foods stores in Chicago at an unspecified date.

In February, Mastronardi Produce introduced SUNSET Pop Its, a bite-sized cucumber line which debuted last October at the International Floral and Produce Association Global Produce and Floral show.

The product’s oval packaging with top seal features new film technology to help maintain product freshness and crispness, according to a news release.

“Consumers are increasingly moving away from ultra-processed foods, and snacks like Pop Its cucumbers satisfy demand for natural alternatives when it comes to snack and mealtime,” Geoff Kosar, Mastronardi vice president of marketing, said in the release. “We’re making it easier than ever before to make fast, simple, healthy choices that don’t compromise on flavor or texture.”

Mastronardi Produce has grown, distributed and marketted fresh fruits and vegetables for more than 70 years under the SUNSET brand, recently adding the  Backyard Farms and Queen of Greens brands.
