Promoting healthy eating & fresh fruits and vegetables

Produce for Kids set a record for fundraising in the fall, raising more than $202,000 for two programs.

Produce for Kids is a philanthropic organization dedicated to bringing members of the produce industry together to provide education about healthy eating habits and fresh produce. Fall campaign funds benefited PBS KIDS’ curriculum-based entertainment and “Let’s Move Salad Bars to Schools.”

Consumers were encouraged to purchase sponsored fruits and vegetables in participating stores, where donations were then made to support the two projects.

Publix Super Markets and 10 fruit and vegetable partners supported “Healthy Schools, Healthy Minds,” raising more than $115,000 to present salad bars to 38 schools in Publix communities via “Let’s Move Salad Bars to Schools” in partnership with United Fresh.

The “Eat Smart for a Great Start” campaign generated $86,000 for PBS KIDS. Participants included Ahold’s GIANT Food Stores, Martin’s, Giant Landover and Stop & Shop divisions, United Supermarkets and Meijer, Inc. More than 23 produce suppliers also took part.
