Inside Idaho’s ‘Real Potato Chips’ plant

Idaho produces more potatoes than any other state in the U.S., but when it comes to potatoes grown to become chips, Michigan actually tops the production list.

Brothers Kyle and Marc Nehring of Idaho wanted to create a potato chip line made of Idaho-grown spuds, however, which they did several years ago when they started Idaho “Real Potato Chips” under Teton Valley Brands.

Potato chips are typically made with white potato cultivars, aka chippers, but the Nehrings use russets, skin-on, to create their kettle chips, which are processed at a Nampa plant.
