Obama signs $1.4B food safety measure
President Barack Obama signed into law Tuesday new food safety regulations that are the biggest change to industry oversight in more than 70 years as Republicans vowed to fight the cost.
The $1.4 billion bill, passed by Congress last month, will affect Michigan’s $25 billion food processing industry by giving the U.S. Food and Drug Administration more authority to police domestic producers and food that is imported from 150 countries. The Detroit News
