Solenis offers PFAS-free food and beverage packaging

Solenis’ range of TopScreen barrier coatings and Contour PFAS-Free technology provide eco-friendly alternatives to environmentally harmful plastics used in food and beverage paper packaging.

These solutions help consumer brand companies and paper converters meet the increasing demand for biodegradable fast-food packaging, corrugated board, single-use cups, molded fiber articles and other food and beverage packaging elements.

The TopScreen family of products includes several versatile, cost-effective solutions that protect food packaging from oil, grease, water and water vapor. Suitable for a wide range of end-use applications, these formulations are repulpable, compostable and biodegradable. Highlights in the TopScreen family include:

  • Contour PFAS-free Oil and Grease Resistant Technology is a versatile, environmentally friendly solution that provides oil and water resistance for molded fiber food service packaging. This innovation replaces perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) surface treatments typically applied to pulp-based articles like plates, bowls, trays and clamshells. Ideal for low- to mid-temperature end-use applications, Contour technology is easy to implement as a PFAS replacement, with minimal equipment costs and process management changes.
  • TopScreen Oil and Grease Resistant Barrier Coatings and TopScreen™ Water Repellent Barrier Coatings provide environmentally friendly oil, water and grease resistance to food paper packaging. As an alternative to plastic laminated liners, these sustainable water-based barrier coatings are biodegradable, recyclable and repulpable. Ideal for a wide range of end-use applications, from burger wrappers to fast food containers, TopScreen barrier coatings can accommodate printability, flexibility and glueability.
  • TopScreen Barrier Coatings for Cupstock are plastic-free, eco-friendly barrier solutions for single-use hot and cold cups and ice cream cups. This barrier coating is ideal as a liquid barrier alternative to polyethylene (PE). The recyclable, repulpable and compostable cupstock solution can be applied with standard coating application equipment and processes.
