Recall issued for fresh cut vegetables across North America for listeria concerns
Update: Since the original recall was issued by Mann Packing on Oct. 19, there have been nine subsequent recalls related to the original contamination concerns. This has prompted the FDA to create a webpage to monitor the secondary recalls.
Mann Packing of Salinas, California has issued a voluntary recall of minimally processed vegetable products because they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. The FDA said in a release that Mann Packing is issuing the recall in response to a single positive result found during random sampling by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.
“Mann Packing is issuing this recall out of an abundance of caution,” the release said, adding that, to date, public health officials have not reported any illnesses associated with these products.
“As an owner of this company and a mom, providing safe and healthy foods to our consumers and their families is always our top priority,” said Gina Nucci, director of corporate marketing at Mann.
The recalled products were distributed throughout the United States and Canada with “best if used by” dates from Oct. 12 to Oct. 20 listed on the front of the packaging.
The recalled vegetables are sold under the following names:
- Walmart
- Trader Joe’s
- Compliments
- Western Family
- Archer Farms
- Mann
- Mann’s Culinary Cuts
- Mann’s Family Favorites
- Mann’s Snacking Favorites
- HEB
- Little Salad Bar
- Signature Farms
- Cross Valley Farms
- Sysco Natural
The recalled product has the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.
The FDA said that Mann Packing is fully cooperating with U.S. and Canadian health officials on the recall. Mann Packing is contacting all affected customers to confirm that the recalled product is removed from store shelves. Consumers who have purchased any recalled products listed below are urged not to consume them, discard them or return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
