Kronen washing machine features self-cleaning water

Kronen engineers have developed a GEWA washing machine with integrated water filter. The challenge was to develop a filtration system that would clean itself and not interfere or interrupt the wash water process, according to the company.

Kronen GEWA 5000V Plus

Kronen has modified the GEWA washing machine for fresh-cut salads, herbs and vegetables in the kosher market, particularly for the washing of iceberg lettuce, white and red cabbage. The vegetables are certified by a rabbi before the sale and receive the Hechscharim (certificate). The entire wash water is continuously pre-filtered through a slot screen drum at each cycle to 0.5 mm and passes completely through the special filtration, according to the company.

The machine is equipped with modules and features, according to Kronen:

  • The process water runs through the self-cleaning water filter and is returned to the wash tank as “kosher” water. The integrated display shows when the filter system cleans itself and the polluted water is drained. The rinsing process is optimized for water consumption. The digital display is used for tracking and does not require active operation. This prevents the washing process from being interrupted and the filter can clean itself.
  • The Water Management System (WMS) enables centrally controlled filling and emptying of the washing machines. During operation, the water level in the washing machine is automatically controlled via an additional level sensor. If the water level drops too low, the pneumatic inlet valves are automatically opened and the GEWA is supplied with kosher fresh water. The system includes two valves for filling and two for emptying the machine, as well as the necessary piping. The WMS is operated via the control box of the washing machine.

Further features include insect drum as basket variant and lateral insect removal drum.
