Japan to require HACCP system for all food-related companies

The new Food Sanitation Law in Japan will require a Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) system from all food-related companies.

This also covers all gases that come in direct contact with food, including carbon monoxide and nitrogen, The Gas Review reported. The process must start during the gas production and filling stages.

“Specific procedures require documentation of sanitation control for food additive gases and recording of all processes. Capital investments may be required for filling cylinders indoors or for filling cylinders on separate lines from industrial gases, as is required for medical gases,” wrote gasworld.

The new regulations are not scheduled to go into effect until 2021, allowing governing bodies to finalize regulation requirements and for quality control departments to implement corresponding procedure changes.
