Dehydrated potato factory in Washington hit by fire

A large fire broke out at a dehydrated potato processing plant in Warden, Washington, on Jan. 21, which led to evacuations for residents who live near the plant.

According to KXLY in Spokane, the fire at the Washington Potato Company facility started about 5:30 p.m. Evacuation alerts were sent out as the fire approached an ammonia tank. Firefighters were able to contain the blaze and residents returned to their homes the following morning. No injuries were reported.

The Washington Potato Company has been a subsidiary of the Oregon Potato Company since 2001, according to the company’s website.

Warden is a community of about 2,700 people located approximately 25 miles southeast of Moses Lake.
