WFLO honors Toogood with leadership award

The World Food Logistics Organization (WFLO), a partner of the Global Cold Chain Alliance (GCCA), develops talent for the cold chain industry through the Don Schlimme Future Leader Award program which is held during the WFLO Institute East. Through the award program, a young leader is recognized for contributions to his company, knowledge of the cold chain industry and leadership potential.

Matt Toogood, operations manager for United States Cold Storage (USCS), received the 2017 Don Schlimme Future Leader Award during the 53rd WFLO Institute East, which took place Feb. 18-22, at the Georgia Tech Hotel and Conference Center in Atlanta.

Organized by WFLO, the Don Schlimme Future Leader Award recognizes outstanding young professionals in the North American cold storage industry. The award is named in honor of Donald V. Schlimme, who passed away in 2012 and was a longtime member of the WFLO Scientific Advisory Committee (1983-2012) and a WFLO staff advisor for many of those years. He was an expert in food science and cold storage.

Toogood competed with three of his fellow Don Schlimme Future Leader Award nominees. Those nominees included Shawn Thomas, Snotemp Cold Storage; Andrew Pavlicin, USCS; and Devany Cocco, USCS.

Toogood has worked in the industry since 2010 and joined USCS in June 2016, where he oversees operations at the Fort Worth, Texas, facility.

He will compete alongside the Frank Vale Award (Australia) and Peter Worthington-Smith Award (South Africa) recipients for the GCCA Global NextGen Award at the 126th IARW-WFLO Convention taking place April 22-25, in Dana Point, California.
