Washing machine integrates UVC water disinfection

Kronen has launched a new GEWA washing machine with a built-in UVC reactor. The washing machine permanently disinfects wash water andturns it into germ-free process water, according to Kronen.

The Kronen GEWA washing line allows salads, herbs, vegetables and fresh-cut products to be washed thoroughly without mechanical immersion, the company said. In addition, the washing machine is equipped with an insect & fines removal system.

The use of the UVC reactor prevnets cross-contamination, ensures higher process reliability and allows a reduction in the amount of water used, Kronen said.

Through built-in pumps in the washing machine, the process water is pumped completely through the UVC reactor, with an overall performance of 60 m³/h circulation for a water volume of about 750 liters, according to the company. This is equivalent to a 80fold theoretical passage of all wash water per hour, or 80 UVC treatments per hour, the company said.

The UVC reactor consists of 6 ET tubes, which are operated economically via three ballasts with low energy consumption. These ET tubes are designed for 12000 ignitions or 12000 operating hours, Kronen said.
