Spinach from California Recalled

Metz Fresh, King City, Calif., announced a recall Aug. 29 of fresh-cut bagged spinach after testing positive for salmonella, according to FDA. So far, no illnesses have been reported.

The affected product was distributed throughout the United States and Canada to retail and foodservice customers. The spinach was packaged in 10- and 16-ounce bags and 4-2.5 pound and 4 pound cartons with the tracking codes 12208114, 12208214 and 12208314.

Much of the product never made it to the marketplace because Metz Fresh held the lot after a sample done by an outside laboratory came back with a presumptive positive, according to the company. After the result was confirmed, the company announced the recall.

Customers should discard the product or return it to the store where it was purchased for a refund. For more information, contact Metz Fresh at (831) 386-1018.
