Paper Pak facilities accredited by UK group

Paper Pak Industries’ La Verne, Calif., and Washington, Ga., manufacturing facilities have been accredited by the British Retail Consortium (BRC).

The BRC accreditation is the result of PPI’s compliance with the BRC/IOP Global Standard for Packaging and Packaging Materials Issue 4, recognized as a Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) benchmarked food safety scheme. The GFSI-approved BRC Packaging and Packaging Materials scheme covers the hygienic production of packaging materials and the management of quality and functional properties of the packaging to provide assurance to customers.

“The British Retail Consortium accreditation of our California and Georgia manufacturing facilities acknowledges PPI’s longstanding commitment to adhere to the industry’s best manufacturing, operations and management practices. PPI is the first absorbent manufacturer in North America to achieve BRC accreditation, assuring our customers that PPI’s absorbent packaging products adhere to the highest food quality standards,” said Ron Jensen, Paper Pak CEO and president.

The BRC accreditation process required rigorous on-site assessments of PPI’s California and Georgia manufacturing facilities that encompassed six major requirements: senior management commitment and continual improvement, hazard and risk management system, product safety and quality management system, site standards, product and process control and personnel.

Within these six major requirements, dozens of related benchmarks were audited, including product safety and quality management policy; hazard and risk analysis; traceability; management of incidents, product withdrawals and recalls; transport, storage and distribution; product inspection ad analysis; medical screening; and security.

Paper Pak Industries implements a progressive metrics management system to monitor the company's operations, including productivity, quality and customer service. As part of this system, PPI completes regular internal audits to ensure that all facets of manufacturing comply with the BRC’s Standard for Packaging and Packaging Materials, according to the company.
