H2melon has high hopes for watermelon water

After introducing H2coco coconut water to the Australian market, founder David Freeman is hoping to get a second hit with H2melon. Freeman developed the idea after trying watermelon water for the first time on a trip to the Nevada desert. About a year and a half later, H2melon has come to life.

Similar to the H2coco, the watermelon water product is 100 percent natural, not from concentrate, and with no added sugar, according to the company.

Freeman plans to build on the success of its H2coco coconut water, and is marketing H2melon as a thirst-quenching hydration drink that “contains electrolytes, and is particularly high in magnesium and potassium, which makes it an excellent natural hydration drink to balance electrolytes in your body.” The drink is also high in magnesium and potassium, according to H2melon.

The watermelon water is flash pasteurized, which kills micro-organisms and other bacterial fungus while preserving maximum natural flavor and nutrients, according to the company website.

The watermelon water is packaged in eco-friendly bottles. Tetra Pak cartons are used to protect the freshness of H2melon while enabling a 12-month shelf life, the company claims.

In an interview with the Sydney Morning Herald, Freeman said he is expecting $4 million in sales. He distinguishes H2melon from watermelon juice by saying, “previously you could get watermelon juice in Australia but it always had other artificial ingredients or preservatives. Calling it what it is, which is 92 per cent water, distinguishes it from what has previously been in the market before.”

H2melon watermelon water is currently available in 500 ml and 1 liter re-sealable bottles at Woolworths and Caltex. The company plans to sell H2melon online as well.
