FreshNSure tests 1-MCP treatment in apples

New technology from NSure can test for 1-MCP treatment in apples, according to the company. The test can be used shortly after treatment or after months in storage.

The FreshNSure test is based on measurement of gene activity changes due to 1-MCP treatment, through which NSure is able to prove whether treatment has been applied or not. The test can be used worldwide and is applicable for the cultivars Gala, Red Delicious, Fuji, Granny, Elstar, Jonagold and their clones, the company said.

The sample should be taken out of storage, or within 14 days of shelf life. You only need to apply a few drops of juice (generated from 15 apples) on a provided FTA-card to have a batch of apples tested. After processing the card in NSure’s laboratory, the test result is expressed in “not treated” or “treated.”

The FreshNSure test can be performed on apples after three months in storage.
