Built like romaine, crisper like iceberg:

Misionero Vegetables and Seminis Vegetable Seeds have announced the introduction of Frescada. The U.S.-grown lettuce is a cross between iceberg and Romaine.

The companies describe Frescada as having the sweet taste and crispy texture of iceberg, but with more robust flavor, nutritional content and a deeper green color.

Seminis' Carly Scaduto said it will be available in multiple-head bags for initial test marketing. The product will be cored, trimmed and ready to use without any waste.

“But I know they're looking at other options as well,” she said.

Frescada will be available in select Sam's Club stores.
