FDA approves PURE Control produce processing aid

PURE Bioscience, Inc., creator of the patented silver dihydrogen citrate (SDC) antimicrobial, has announced the use of SDC as a fresh produce processing aid. FDA-approved PURE Control has been developed as an antimicrobial processing aid for direct application on produce to reduce foodborne pathogens, PURE Bioscience said.

The PURE Control solution is applied by spray or dip to reduce the pathogen populations on fruits and vegetables intended for processing. According to PURE Bioscience, SDC test results show consistent and materially significant reductions in pathogens most frequently associated with foodborne illness outbreaks traced to processed produce, including Salmonella, E. coli and Listeria.

The Centers for Disease Control has identified leafy greens as the primary source of foodborne illness. A growing number of recent highly visible incidents of foodborne illness outbreaks are linked to produce processors and underscore the pressing need for more effective pathogen reduction solutions, PURE Bioscience said.

PURE Control, along with PURE Hard Surface, provides a complete solution in controlling Salmonella, E. coli, Listeria, Norovirus and other pathogens in processing facilities, according to the company.
