FDA announces Alfa Sprouts recall

Alfa Sprouts, Inc. of Honeoye Falls, N.Y., is recalling approximately 100 pounds of Springwater Sprouts brand organic alfalfa sprouts and bulk three-pound clover sprouts because they may be contaminated with listeria, the FDA has announced.

The contamination was discovered after sampling under the USDA Microbiological Data Program by New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets inspectors. Subsequent analysis by New York State Food Laboratory personnel revealed the presence of listeria in the product. No illnesses have been reported to date.

Products under recall include:

Clear clam shell packages containing 4 oz. Organic Alfalfa Sprouts with a sell-by date of April 28, 2012, distributed in New York state with UPC codes: 688267047411 and 042891000523. The three-pound bulk containers of clover sprouts, with a production code of P93, were distributed to institutional accounts in upstate New York.
