Day One of United Fresh 2014

June 11, 2014

Hello, Chicago! This is my first time at United Fresh and the beautiful Chicago skyline is definitely a value-added bonus. But I have to say, the trade show floor might be even more spectacular, especially the New Product Awards section.

Yes, I voted — no, I will not tell you whom I selected! But I will tell you that there are some incredible entries this year and the industry is headed in a very exciting direction (we highlighted some of the award finalists in the June issue of Fresh Cut Magazine).

Speaking of an exciting direction, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton touched on that very topic Tuesday night at the United Fresh/FMI Connect General Session sponsored by Wonderful Brands. Aside from highlighting her new book, “Hard Choices,” and keeping her thoughts on running for president a secret, Clinton focused on the future of agriculture and the future of our nation.

The highlight of her speech, I think, was her discussion of immigration reform. She said, “We are stronger if we move towards immigration reform. I believe that.”

Thanks so much for reading. I will post more from Chicago after round two tomorrow. For even more information, check out freshcut.com, our Facebook page and Twitter. Don’t forget to visit our YouTube page later this week for show coverage.

I look forward to seeing (and meeting) all of you! Stop by booth #1882 and say hi.
